MEDIA ALERT: QSONG DEADLINE EXTENDED

The QSong entry deadline has been extended until Thursday May 31st.

Entries have been flooding in from all over Queensland and with just over two weeks to go, it’s time to get your entry in now.

Once again, Q Music is delighted with the response from Queensland songwriters and the depth of talent that lies in this state.

$25,000 in cash and prizes is up for grabs across 13 categories covering everything from rock and pop to jazz, blues, alternative, punk, hip-hop, electronic, alternative, country, indigenous and world music.

The winner of each category will then go into the running to collect the Q Song, Song of the Year Award and take home a $3000 voucher from Ellaways Music.

What’s more, the states music fans will have the chance to walk away with a $5000 prize just by voting in the Courier-Mail People’s Choice Award.

Q Music acting executive officer Lawrence English said the awards were about recognising excellence in art of song writing.

“Q Song is about more than just rewarding our established songwriters,” he said. “Rather these awards aim to encourage and foster the state’s finest new and emerging artists.”

With that in mind, the awards are targeting unpublished artists (who own their own copyright) with more established artists eligible only for the Published Song of the Year and the G.W McLennan Achievement Award which will recognise artists that have made a long standing contribution to Queensland songwriting.

The winners will be announced at the Q Song Awards on August 14th,2007.
“Q Song is a truly state wide event and we encourage all songwriters of all ages from around Queensland to get involved today,” Mr English said.
